What is dental bonding?

A premier form of cosmetic dentistry, dental bonding uses a tooth-colored composite resin to cover any blemishes or damage on your teeth. It is a relatively quick and painless procedure that can be a great and affordable option if you need some extra help with your smile.

What is the procedure like?

To prepare your teeth for cosmetic bonding, your dentist will lightly remove some of your tooth-surface so the bonding resin can adhere to your tooth. The resin will be shaped and molded to look just like your natural teeth and cured with a special ultraviolet light so it becomes durable.

Once the resin has hardened, your dentist will polish and buff the surface so your bonded tooth looks natural and healthy.

How do I care for my bonded teeth?

Like any form of cosmetic dentistry, cosmetic bonding takes some care to maintain. To keep your bonded teeth from chipping or staining, you will want to avoid eating very hard or sticky foods, refrain from tobacco, and limit your intake of coffee, tea, and other substances that hasten the yellowing of your smile.

Just like the rest of your teeth, teeth with cosmetic bonding need to be brushed twice daily, flossed at least once a day, and examined by our Waterford dentists during regularly scheduled, biannual cleanings.
